Job Description

Punahou's Summer Programs offers a variety of classes in academics, sports, music and art to name a few.  With various courses offered to students in kindergarten – grade 12, the opportunities during Punahou Summer Programs seem endless.  The Summer Teaching Aide Program is designed to provide opportunities to gain experience and mentoring in a school setting for high school and college students contemplating careers in education. Summer Teaching Aides are respected professionals and add value to every program they support. During the summer, Teaching Aides play a vital role in creating a supportive learning environment for students.  Teaching Aides provide assistance to lead teachers, facilitate daily activities and supervise students.  All new hires are required to be on island 1 week prior to the start of Orientation to complete required paperwork.

The K-8 Theatre Department summer program immerses young learners in the performing arts, fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence through acting, improvisation, storytelling, and introductory experiences in design and technical theatre. Students explore the foundations of theatre in a supportive, playful, and engaging environment.

Teaching Assistants support this work in a variety of ways, including classroom facilitation, small-group leadership, and, depending on interest and experience, assisting with choreography, movement, and introductory directing or staging. While a formal background in theatre is not required, a strong interest in the arts, performance, and project-based education is essential. Applicants with enthusiasm for dance, movement, storytelling, or leadership in creative processes are especially encouraged to apply.
