Job Description

Project Overview:

The Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 Project is a major infrastructure undertaking to extend the Q Line service in Manhattan. The project will be delivered through multiple overlapping design and construction contracts. Responsible for administering, managing, and ensuring the successful completion of the project safely, on schedule, and within budget.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

This full-time, on-site contract position supports the Project Management Consultant within Manhattan’s active construction corridor. The Field Engineer observes daily contractor operations, coordinates inspection staff, and verifies conformance with all contract documents—delivering rigorous field oversight throughout the multi-year program.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect and monitor excavation, structural, and systems work to confirm compliance with plans and specifications
  • Oversee on-site material testing; track quantities and prepare pay estimates to verify accurate contractor billing
  • Initiate field revisions, resolve document conflicts, and maintain up-to-date as-constructed drawings
  • Liaise with the Resident Engineer to surface construction issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Leverage emerging technology GPS/rovers and digital reporting to boost inspection efficiency and accuracy
  • Perform office-engineer duties: change-order documentation, RFI/submittal tracking, and schedule analysis

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Urban Rail Expertise: Solid background in deep excavation, tunneling, and slurry wall systems, especially within dense urban transit environments
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in producing detailed calculations, graphical reports, and data analysis in Excel
  • Leadership: Capable of mentoring junior staff and participating in constructability and quality reviews
  • Project Controls: Experienced in reviewing CPM schedules and shop drawings to support timely project delivery

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Engineering and 4 years’ relevant experience (tunneling/deep excavation preferred)
  • CCM, or ACI certification preferred; OSHA 30 and agency safety training advantageous


     

Salary: $60 - $75/hr
