Job Description

Sr. Electrical Engineer – BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead development of preliminary design concepts for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) using advanced engineering principles and industry best practices

• Provide high-level technical documentation and guidance to Estimating, Business Development, and Proposal teams to support project pursuits

• Oversee and contribute to detailed design development for awarded BESS projects, ensuring accuracy and constructability

• Provide lifecycle design leadership and optimization support from concept through commissioning and operations

• Develop, standardize, and maintain electrical engineering calculation tools and design methodologies

• Collaborate with Estimating, Procurement, Project Management, and Field teams to drive design optimization and execution success

• Lead and mentor AutoCAD designers and junior engineers in producing site layouts, single-line diagrams, and construction drawings

• Own and continuously improve the database of equipment and design standards used in BESS engineering

• Direct development of construction details, engineering deliverables, and Bills of Materials for project work packages

• Lead the design process from conceptual through Issued for Construction (IFC) stages across multiple projects

• Review, interpret, and guide utility interconnection documentation including facility studies, interconnection agreements, and power purchase agreements

• Apply advanced engineering and cost optimization strategies and maintain design matrices for scalability and future use

• Provide technical leadership and support to Procurement and Operations teams during project execution

• Utilize and promote company-approved tools and communication methods to ensure cross-functional alignment

• Drive continuous improvement across engineering, procurement, scheduling, and project controls workflows

• Analyze historical project data to inform design improvements, cost efficiencies, and material forecasting

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience

• 5–8 years of experience in renewable energy, including at least 3 years in utility-scale BESS or Solar PV design

• Proven experience leading engineering design efforts on large-scale energy projects

• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, PVsyst, SAM, ETAP, CYMCAP, PVSOL (BESS Design), and Python

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

• Deep understanding of BESS and PV system architecture including inverters, transformers, and protection systems

• Strong ability to interpret manufacturer specifications and translate into optimized, constructible designs

• Extensive experience developing BESS site plans and single-line diagrams (AC and DC systems)

• Strong prioritization and multitasking skills with ability to manage multiple projects independently

• Ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

• High level of organization and attention to detail

• Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development
