JOB SUMMARY
The COMMERCIAL ROOFING PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN is responsible for removal, preparation, and installation of various types of roofing systems primarily for commercial roofing.  This position performs physical labor as part of a production crew and assists in all phases of commercial roofing projects including tear-off, installation, flashing, clean-up, and jobsite safety/housekeeping. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, reliability, physical endurance, and the ability to work as part of a team to complete projects efficiently and to company and manufacturer standards.  The technician must be able to take direction, work within a team of others to perform a task, perform skilled details, work at heights, and ensure that all work is performed to code and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.  

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. LABOR with assigned production crew to complete all aspects of commercial roofing projects including tear-off, material staging, installation, flashing, detail work, and final clean-up.
  2. ASSIST foreman and crew with daily job safety setup, material handling, and jobsite organization.
  3. ASSIST in setup, use, and tear down of safety equipment including fall protection, guardrails, ladders, and scaffolding.
  4. INSTALL roofing system components as directed, including insulation, membranes, fasteners, edge metal, and accessories.
  5. SAFELY operate hand tools and powered equipment such as regular hand tools, axes, mattocks, screw guns, roof cutters, reciprocating saws, drills, roofing nailers, heat welding equipment, generators, ladders, harnesses, and scaffolding.
  6. MAINTAIN clean and safe job sites, following OSHA safety protocols and company guidelines.
  7. ABIDE by all job-site safety requirements, including PPE, fall protection, OSHA and Company policy safety requirements.
  8. REPORT unsafe conditions, hazards, incidents, and all situations improperly protected.
  9. FOLLOW direction from the Foreman and Superintendent while maintaining a team-first attitude.
  10. PARTICIPATE in weekly trainings and manufacturer system-specific training.
  11. ATTEND all companywide training events and any other training as assigned.
  12. PERFORM work according to quality standards, production schedules, and manufacturer specifications.
  13. COLLABORATE with the assigned crew and work for the benefit of all.
  14. MENTOR less-experienced crew members. 
  15. SUPPORT crew productivity by working efficiently and assisting teammates as needed.
  16. PERFORMS OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of roofing systems of various commercial roofing materials and installation techniques.
  • Knowledge of commercial roofing systems and installation methods.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, safely and effectively.
  • Ability to pay attention to quality and safety with a goal of installing correctly and working safely with a willingness to make improvements.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work-related documents.
  • Ability to work manual labor in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb, stoop, bend over, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with crew members, supervisors and clients.

Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent

6 months experience in roofing or construction

Ability to work 8 to 12 hours shifts, weekdays, weekends, and holidays with travel

Willingness to comply with all safety standards and requirements

Current driver’s license with a clean driving record

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

3 years of experience in roofing

Commercial roofing experience

Steep slope/Residential roofing experience

Bilingual

CDL

OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour card

CERTA

First Aid/CPR

Sheet Metal experience

Forklift certificate

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must pass a criminal background check

Must have a valid driver’s license

Must have and maintain a good driving record

Must pass preemployment drug screening  

Must be able to climb & descend ladders up to but not limited to 40 feet in height, repeatedly throughout the workday

Must be able to work in high places & elevated surfaces

Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs

Must be able to use hand and power tools safely, effectively, and within proper use

WORK CONDITIONS:

Works outside in all types of weather and may be exposed to extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, sun etc.
