Position Summary

The MBS coordinator assists in program development, managing the accreditation process, ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP standards, maintaining relevant pathways and protocols, patient education, monitoring outcomes data and collection, quality improvement initiatives and the education of relevant staff with a focus on metabolic and bariatric patient safety. The MBS coordinator supports the development of written protocols and education of nursing staff detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical patient findings that are specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events.

The MBS Coordinator administrates the MBS Committee and must attend all required meetings, one of which must be the annual comprehensive review meeting. Prepares the meeting agenda and ensure all necessary team members are present.

Collaborates on an ongoing basis with Medical Director, clinic staff and physicians, promoting positive communication techniques and the ability to problem solve at every level.

Works with Medical Director to anticipate and identify the needs of the center and creatively implements solutions to problems. Integrates Evidence Based Practice into clinic improvements.

Provides orientation/education for center and hospital staff, students, and other hospitals and community organizations, as requested.

Administers nursing care to patients; includes assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient's care plan in coordination with the physician.

Standard Work: Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Coordinator
  • Meet new patients in the office setting and tour facility.
  • Make rounds twice daily on all admitted patients and assist nurse on the floor with the care of the patient.
  • Assist in OR by visiting patients in the pre-op area, observe cases and assist assigned nurse on the ward in patient care.
  • Coordinate seminar schedule and audiovisual requirements.
  • Coordinate and administer the support group.
  • Community engagement activities such as community fair participation and networking with office staff.
  • Serve as a hospital wide liaison and facilitator for care of the obese patients.


Competencies & Skills

Essential:

  • Possession of a current license as a registered nurse in the State of Florida
  • Minimum of five years registered nurse experience-three year’s current experience in the area of bariatrics preferred.
  • Bachelor degree in health related field required, or actively in pursuit degree.
  • Specialty certification within one year of eligibility.
  • BLS for the Healthcare Provider certified.
Nonessential:
  • High level of interpersonal/communication skills to promote team approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills required.
