Job Description

Position Title:
Head Junior High Varsity Boys' Basketball Coach
 
Job Goal:
This position involves coaching, mentoring, and guiding student-athletes in individual skill development and team strategies. The coach will also be responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, ensuring the safety and well-being of players, and always representing the school professionally.
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years coaching experience (head coaching preferred)
  • Proven coaching techniques and in-depth knowledge, including rules, strategies, and district and PIAA regulations
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and governing bodies
  • Commitment to academic and personal development of student-athletes
  • Ability to assess and develop players and coaches
  • Professional demeanor and motivational leadership
  • Effective communicator with strong human relations skills
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Willingness to uphold school policies and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Availability to meet with students and parents outside of instructional hours
  • A head coach/assistant coach must be dedicated to organizing and maintaining a structured off-season workout program that supports the ongoing development of their athletes. This involves planning and supervising conditioning, skill-building, and strength training sessions to ensure progress throughout the year and team readiness.

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Coach
RATE: Stipend and work year per LEA agreement
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director/Principal
JOB GOAL: The Coach oversees all aspects of the program, including recruitment within the
school, opponent scheduling (in collaboration with the Athletic Director), training, and coaching.
The coach must exhibit strong leadership in player and staff development, promote
sportsmanship, uphold integrity, and model exemplary character. Compliance with PIAA and
Lebanon School District Board policies and regulations is mandatory.

PERFORMANCE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise all activities, promoting skills development, teamwork, and sportsmanship
• Use varied instructional methods to meet athletes' needs
• Plan and coordinate the program’s development and promotion
• Conduct meetings for prospective players and encourage participation

• Collaborate with staff on instructional and developmental goals
• Build program unity across coaching staff and youth feeder programs
• Set performance criteria and regularly evaluate athletes
• Organize and manage structured practices for team and individual growth
• Hold pre-season meetings with athletes and parents
• Assess and assign team positions based on skill
• Develop game strategies
• Monitor and enforce eligibility criteria and discipline standards
• Always promote sportsmanlike conduct
• Ensure student safety, including preventing hazing and bullying
• Maintain, repair, and secure equipment and uniforms
• Ensure compliance with all PIAA and district regulations
• Guide students on eligibility for scholarships and college recruitment
• Assist in game scheduling and logistics
• Serve as program representative with media, boosters, community groups, and program-
related events (banquets, award nights, etc.)
• Communicate with parents regarding student performance
• Follow injury protocols
• Represent the program and district professionally
• Attend professional development to enhance coaching skills
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or administration
• Participate in staff and team meetings

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Stipend and work year shall be in accordance with provisions
of the current LEA agreement. If the employee is unable to meet expectations of the position
according to the site administrator, the employee may be removed from the position, and the
stipend will be distributed according to the number of days worked.
