Position: Environmental Services
Reports To: Facilities Manager
Status: Part time- Hourly 15-20 hours weekly
Hours: 5:00 -9:00 p.m.
Wage: $14-$16
Position Summary
The Environmental Services/Custodian staff member is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for youth, staff, and community members at the Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore. This role ensures all facilities meet cleanliness and sanitation standards while supporting daily operations and occasional special events.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Cleaning & Maintenance
Perform routine cleaning duties including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and dusting
Clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, and common areas
Wipe and disinfect high-touch surfaces (door handles, tables, equipment, etc.)
Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners
Maintain cleanliness of entryways, hallways, offices, and program spaces
Floor Care
Operate and maintain floor cleaning equipment, including floor scrubbers and vacuums
Perform periodic deep cleaning of floors, including stripping, waxing, or buffing as needed
Sanitation & Safety
Follow established cleaning and sanitation protocols to ensure a healthy environment
Safely use and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with OSHA standards
Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisor promptly
Support compliance with health and safety regulations
Event Support
Assist with setup and breakdown for special events and programs
Provide additional cleaning support before, during, and after events as needed
General Duties
Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies; notify supervisor when inventory is low
Support overall facility upkeep and organization
Comply with all safety and MIOSHA standards
Perform all other duties as assigned to support Club operations
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous custodial or environmental services experience preferred
Ability to operate cleaning equipment (training may be provided)
Knowledge of basic cleaning practices and safety procedures
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to perform repetitive motions and physically demanding tasks
Comfortable working in various indoor environments

5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday-Friday Some Weekends as needed
