Laboratory Manager

Hours per Pay Period:  1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Exempt)
Starting Wage *based on market analysis

 

 

Develops objectives,
policies, and procedures for core Laboratory Services to formalize and
implement the  mission, vision, and
values of Billings Clinic. Maintains the standards, customer relations, and
practices  within Laboratory Services.
Accountabilities include: quality of services; short and long range planning
to  achieve goals and objectives; fiscal
control; physician and interdepartmental/intradepartmental relations;  personnel management.

Essential
Job Functions

•Develops and oversees core Laboratory Services to ensure
adherence to organizational mission, vision, values, strategic goals, and
business strategies. Interprets and supports the mission and philosophy of
Billings Clinic. Responsible for promotion of, and adherence to, the elements
of Billings Clinic’s Code of Business Conduct and corporate compliance program.
•In collaboration with the Director, physician and
pathologist leadership and other medical staff, administration, and other
health care providers, develops and implements short and long range plans, and
leads, develops and revises programs which enhance department services.
•Provides leadership and
oversight for the daily operations within the laboratory.
•Develops, maintains and
implements general lab and organizational policies relevant to the provision of
laboratory services.
•Responsible for CAP
preparations and readiness
•Works closely with the
Pathologists to identify and resolve operational issues/concerns
•Assist and supports the
Director with various project management needs to include data gathering,
financial analysis, Performa, ROI, capital equipment requests, etc.
•Responsible for management of
the daily operations and service deliverables for all areas of the laboratory
•Participates in the development of a cost effective
annual budget. Manages the budget for core laboratory responsibilities.
•Manages supply inventory and
utilization and seeks opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality
•Actively participates in
Operational Excellence initiatives and projects
•Responsible for management of
laboratory productivity and monitoring and oversight of the variance reports.
Responsible to implement corrective actions to facilitate process changes.
•Practices process improvement principles to assess and
improve the quality of the service/care provided within Laboratory Services.
Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency
environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance
and ensures compliance of the department and staff.
•Develops, maintains and
implements an effective quality control and quality assurance programs in all
areas of the laboratory
•Reviews and conducts
investigations of any HIPAA violations and/or occurrence reports. Implements corrective
action as may be needed to improve the workflow or processes to prevent future
incidents.
•Responsible for managing the
laboratory equipment maintenance program in the main lab and within the
regional clinics.
•Responsible for the various
organizational quality and/or accreditation initiatives
•Develops, retains, recruits, and leads a talented team
committed to accomplishing the goals and objectives of Billings Clinic.
Recommends, implements, and evaluates plans and systems that assure sufficient number
of qualified and competent staff to provide care/services. Adheres to
administrative policies and procedures relating to human resource management.
•Provides oversight for the
interviewing and hiring of all laboratory staff
•Completes performance and
competency assessments and/or reviews as appropriate (i.e., 30 day meeting, 90
day meeting, probationary and annual performance reviews)
•Develops and implements
orientation programs for new staff and current staff, staff training,
proficiency testing and competency validations, staff in-services and staff
meetings. Ensures completion of all required annual mandatory education. Works
closely with Human Resources to ensure timely primary source verification of
all required licensures.
•Works closely with Human
Resources on employee relations issues. Works with the laboratory supervisors
to provide appropriate coaching, counseling and/or disciplinary action as may
be needed.
•Promotes laboratory services
careers through the involvement and management of the student internships and
activities within the department to ensure a quality experience for the student
and Billings Clinic
•Demonstrates and encourages an ethic of open
communication and teamwork throughout the organization. Builds an environment
of shared commitment to Billings Clinic’s goals and responsibility to achieve
quality outcomes. Provides consultation for related concerns and acts as a
customer advocate by demonstrating sensitivity to ethical and legal
ramifications of practice.
•Participates in evaluation, selection and integration of
health care technology and information management systems that support quality
of care/financial needs and the efficient use of resources.
•Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the
needs of the department/organization.

Minimum
Qualifications

Education
• 4 Year / Bachelors Degree
Bachelors degree relevant to service area preferred with 5
years of experience in service area

Certifications/Licensure
• Current licensure/certification in the State of Montana as
appropriate or required for service line
•Current Montana drivers license and the ability to be
insured to operate Billings Clinic vehicles
