About the Role:
The Credentialed Vet Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians by providing high-quality medical care to animals in a clinical setting. This position involves performing a variety of technical tasks such as collecting samples, administering medications, monitoring anesthesia, and assisting during surgical procedures to ensure the health and well-being of animal patients. The Vet Technician also educates pet owners on proper animal care, treatment plans, and preventive health measures, fostering strong client relationships. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, compassion, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm demeanor. Ultimately, the Vet Technician contributes significantly to the overall success of the veterinary practice by ensuring excellent patient care and smooth clinical operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program.
- Credentialed as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) in the United States.
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and common medical conditions.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately in a clinical setting.
- Basic proficiency with medical record-keeping and veterinary software systems.
- Experienced in team leadership, including training and onboarding new staff
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital environment.
- Advanced certifications such as Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) or Dentistry Technician credentials.
- Familiarity with anesthesia monitoring equipment and diagnostic imaging techniques.
- Strong communication skills for client education and team collaboration.
- Continuing education or specialized training in areas such as exotic animal care or surgical assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
- Collect and process laboratory samples such as blood, urine, and tissue for diagnostic testing.
- Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments to animals as directed by veterinarians.
- Monitor anesthesia and vital signs during surgical procedures to ensure patient safety.
- Maintain accurate medical records and update patient charts with relevant information.
- Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, nutrition, and preventive health practices.
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and maintain cleanliness of the clinical environment.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment to ensure availability and proper functioning.
