This is an opportunity for a seasoned professional who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to open doors, win work, and build lasting client relationships.

This role is ideal for a market-facing leader who thrives on shaping strategy, cultivating client relationships, and influencing complex mining outcomes from early project conception through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and advance the national mining market strategy for Environmental Services, including identification of priority market segments, clients, geographies, and service offerings aligned with Burns & McDonnell’s long-term growth objectives.
  • Lead market-facing business development efforts to expand Burns & McDonnell’s mining presence, leveraging deep client relationships and new market opportunities to build long-term, programmatic work.
  • Drive sustained, profitable growth of the mining portfolio by originating, shaping, and expanding complex opportunities, including multi-phase permitting programs, programmatic environmental services, and integrated EPC or design-build pursuits.
  • Define and advance Burns & McDonnell’s differentiated value proposition in the mining sector, integrating Environmental Services with engineering, construction, closure, water management, and remediation capabilities to deliver outcomes clients cannot easily replicate.
  • Serve as a trusted, executive-level strategic partner to mining clients, engaging early in project conception to influence development pathways, permitting, closure, construction strategies, risk posture, and capital planning decisions.
  • Collaborate with Burns & McDonnell leaders to build and sustain a national bench of mining talent, including succession planning, targeted recruiting, and intentional development of emerging leaders to support long-term scalability of the practice.
  • Act as a visible industry leader and thought partner, strengthening Burns & McDonnell’s reputation through targeted participation in mining associations, regulatory dialogue, and client forums that directly support strategic growth objectives.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geosciences, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 17+ years of progressive mining industry experience, including permitting, reclamation/restoration, mine water management and remediation.
  • Proven track record of shaping, winning, and expanding complex mining programs, supported by long-standing client relationships and a reputation as a trusted advisor within the mining industry.
  • Experience in mine closure, tailings, or heap leach operations is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and steward complex, high-value mining programs.
  • Recognized thought leader with participation in key industry associations and forums.
  • Resourceful, highly organized, and motivated to build and grow a practice.
