Civil Engineer (Water)

Derby/London/Glasgow/York/Bristol

Permanent

Office/Home Hybrid Working

Do you want to be a part of a growing Water team? Can you collaborate with colleagues across UK and International projects? Are you experienced in the Civil Engineer with experience of water or wastewater schemes? Then this could be the next adventure in your career.

Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

To further expand our civil capability on water and wastewater treatment projects, we are looking for a Civil Engineer with an interest in water utilities to join us. Your primary task will be to support engineering work related to the design of elements including water supply and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure equipment. Your role will be focused on the design environment which, while based in the UK, will involve interacting day-to-day with colleagues across our global hubs. You will work closely with experienced engineers and gain exposure to a variety of projects, with opportunities to grow within the Civils discipline, and to explore client-side or site-based roles in major infrastructure settings.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Supporting the design of projects for a wide range of clients in the UK water sector
  • Using your skills where possible in other sectors, such as utilities, transmission and district heating
  • Assisting in planning design work and deliverables together with wider civils teams
  • Contributing to the preparation of engineering calculations, drawings and technical documentation
  • Learning and applying relevant local and international standards
  • Supporting coordination of multi-disciplinary aspects of projects including civil, mechanical, electrical and process interfaces
  • Assisting senior engineers in technical reviews and design assurance activities
  • Collaborating with team members across global delivery hubs
  • Supporting documentation, quality checks and project deliverables
  • Contributing to the building of relationships with clients and other stakeholders

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you should have:

  • A degree in civil or mechanical engineering
  • Be actively working towards Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) with a recognised professional institution
  • Project experience related to water or infrastructure projects
  • Basic understanding of water-based systems such as water supply, pipelines, pumping stations or treatment processes
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals including hydraulics and fluid mechanics
  • Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar software
  • Awareness of hazardous area classification and relevant regulations such as DSEAR would be advantageous
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A willing and cooperative attitude and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment
