EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBLE LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Departments as they occur.
Position Duties
Under administrative direction of the Administrative Management Specialist III, employee is responsible for administrative and supervisory work of considerable difficulty in the provision and coordination of various federal and state funded Community Action Programs at regional community center, including the oversight of all daily center activities, contact with residents, agency and non-agency area organizations, and the preparation and maintenance of all required records and reports of center activities. Provides overall center leadership by planning, organizing, supervising staff and coordinating the center's efforts, services, programs and activities to achieve the goals of the program. This includes special projects and action for/on behalf of the center's service area community. Coordinates ongoing efforts to determine the needs of the community and to make contributions to improve the community environment through combined efforts of existing groups within the area to help eliminate the causes and effects of poverty. Performs other related work as required. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications
Meets one of the following four options:
I. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the class of Community Services Program Coordinator.
OR
II. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the class of Community Services Counselor; PLUS, at least three (3) years of work experience with government-funded community services programs, specifically in: assisting with the coordination and administration of programs or providing guidance or counseling to families/individuals seeking program assistance.
OR
III. Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related behavioral science; PLUS, at least three (3) years of work experience with government-funded community services programs, as described in Option II above.
OR
IV. Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field of study; PLUS, at least four (4) years of work experience with government-funded community services programs, as described in Option II above.
Proof of education in the form of a college transcript or diploma that states the specific major is required and must be submitted at the time of application or immediately thereafter.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable candidates will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled test(s). Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers, the dates of employment, and the duties and responsibilities of past positions. The Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
