TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION



QUALIFICATION: Kentucky Special Education Teaching Certification and a minimum of 5 years
successful teaching experience in the area of special education. Kentucky Certification for Director of
Special Education preferred, but not required.



REPORT TO/EVALUATED BY: Director of Special Education



EXPERIENCE: It is recommended that applicants have experience chairing ARC meetings, and are
familiar with Special Education Policies and Procedures and with development and implementation of
Individual Education Plans as well as Behavior Intervention Plans. Applicants should have strong
organization skills and work ethic.



BASIC FUNCTION: Assist the director of special education in providing quality educational programs for
students in special education, in order to ensure they will derive the greatest benefit from their educational
experience; help coordinate the direction of special education activities and programs.



REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Oversee and manage Medicaid logs (teacher, IA, OT, PT, SLP, OM, LPCC, transportation)
2. Oversee and manage all SSI Disability Claims
3. Work with District nurse to provide required training for direct billing staff
4. Oversee and manage the district inactive folders (kept for 7 years) and maintain the catalog of
shredded due process folders
5. Assist with state monitoring and reporting of all Special Education Indicators
6. Train and assist ARC Chairs/assist with IEP development and review
7. Serve as a district mentor of Option 6 special education teachers as well as other new special
education teachers
8. Serve as IEP development Coach for teachers who need extra support
9. Serve as ARC Chairperson for Preschool (as directed).
10. Train and assist Section 504 Chairs annually (Guidance Counselors)
11. Assist with District 504 Database
12. Assist with compliance monitoring (due process folders)
13. Attend legal update and coop trainings to stay abreast of Special education law
14. Assist with policy and procedure review and revision
15. Assist with the development and provision of district special education trainings (Medicaid, IEP,
Progress Monitoring, Transition, Behavior, New Teacher)
16. Assist with the creation of POs and ordering of materials for Sunrise Academy and Special
Education classes
17. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
