Head Start Teacher
Summary:
Head Start teachers will report to the Director of Early Childhood. Teachers will provide the best possible
educational opportunities for all students, while helping young learners acquire skills that are necessary to
live a full, productive and satisfying life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned
? Plan and implement an approved developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the instructional
needs of all students.
? Teach all Head Start Program Performance Standards and Indiana's Early Learning Standards.
? Attend to the special needs of students.
? Provide instruction that promotes skill development, knowledge, and reasoning.
? Teach high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
? Use a variety of assessments to evaluate instruction.
? Create an environment that maximizes student learning.
? Carry out School Board policies and procedures.
? Implement the mission and goals of the Head Start/Early Childhood Programs.
? Maintain confidentiality.
? Adhere to the Head Start Code of Conduct.
? Demonstrate continuous professional growth.
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and/or a related field.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Indiana Teacher License.
Supervisory Requirements:
Supervises students and works cooperatively with the educational assistant(s) assigned to the classroom.
Qualifications Requirements:

Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, professional periodicals, journals, teacher editions, or
school regulations. Ability to write short reports/and or correspondence. Ability to effectively present
information and respond to questions from individuals and groups of students.
Mathematical Skills:
Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in creating, using, and managing databases and spreadsheets.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an
extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract
and concrete variables.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to conduct themselves in a manner that not only reflects credit to the school system, but that sets
forth a role model for students to emulate. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written
communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of School
Trustees policies.
