TITLE: Middle School Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS: Certificate, license, or other legal credentials required. Degree(s) required. Such
qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Student Services
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOAL: To establish, maintain and enhance a school counseling program addressing academic
achievement, career planning and social/emotional development
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Plan and implement a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA standards
2 Provide or facilitate access to services necessary for students' academic, social, and emotional success
3 Implement a comprehensive career development program for all student
4 Manage and monitor all students' progress toward yearly academic promotion
5 Provide classroom-based instruction to students
6 Monitor students' attendance, and intervene as needed
7 Provide small group and individual counseling and activities as needed
8 Complete necessary reports for school, county, and state review
9 Manage all aspects of the registration and transfer process for students
10 Maintain and update student files
11 Responsible for all aspects of the management and yearly updates of student records yearly, and ensures compliance with local and state
regulations regarding student records
12 Manage and develop 504 plans for students as needed
13 Participate in various school level teams (IEP, SST, SIT, etc)
14 Participate in community meetings/committees as needed
15 Facilitate state testing for students as directed
16 Facilitate access to community resources for parents, students, and families
17 Facilitate access to local, state, and national programs for students
18 Provide information to all stakeholders regarding school and available programs/opportunities
19 Partner closely with school health and secretarial staff to provide wrap- around processes and services for students, parents, and families
20 Act as a liaison between families and school
21 Serve as building coordinator for education of homeless students, and helps families experiencing homelessness access services in the
community
22 Manage the process for students in need of home/hospital instruction
23 Participate in all required school and district professional learning
24 Participate in workshops, seminars, and personal reading to enhance counseling skills
25 Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As found in the Agreement between the Kent County Teacher's Association and The Board of Education of Kent County. Ten (10) month
position.
SALARY LANE: Teacher's Lane. Step established by the Superintendent.
BARGAINING UNIT: Kent County Teacher's Association
FLSA STATUS: Exempt.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's
policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
