Position Summary:
The Youth Sports Coordinator will report to the Association Director of Sports Advancement and work collaboratively as part of the Mukilteo YMCA branch team to grow and strengthen YMCA Youth Sports programming in the Lynnwood and Edmonds community. This role is highly visible, relationship-driven, and rooted in grassroots outreach—meeting families where they are and bringing YMCA programs into the community.
The Youth Sports Coordinator develops, organizes, and delivers high-quality youth sports programs while providing on-site leadership during practices, games, and events. Working in program ratios as needed, this role creates safe, inclusive, and engaging environments that promote youth development, community connection, and lifelong participation in sports.
Serving as a community ambassador for the YMCA, the Youth Sports Coordinator builds trust through consistent presence, strong relationships, and programming that reflects the interests and needs of Lynnwood/Edmonds-area families.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establish a strong YMCA presence throughout Lynnwood and Edmonds by being visible, approachable, and consistently engaged in the community.
- Build relationships with families through regular interaction before and after practices, games, and events.
- Represent the YMCA at community events, school activities, youth fairs, and outreach opportunities.
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for families seeking youth sports opportunities.
- Create welcoming first impressions that encourage long-term participation and connection to the YMCA.
- Assist in planning, developing, and implementing culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate youth sports programs.
- Instruct classes, officiate youth sports games, and provide on-site leadership during practices and competitions.
- Pilot and support new sports offerings, leagues, or clinics based on community interest and feedback.
- Monitor participation, evaluate program effectiveness, and compile program statistics.
- Ensure programs align with YMCA standards and operate within approved budgets.
- Provide guidance, training, and on-site support to youth sports instructors, referees, and volunteers.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and supervising staff and volunteers.
- Participate in and help facilitate staff meetings and trainings.
- Provide feedback, coaching, and accountability while modeling YMCA core values.
- Build and maintain relationships with Lynnwood and Edmonds schools, PTAs, parks and recreation staff, and youth organizations.
- Collaborate with community partners to increase awareness and accessibility of YMCA youth sports programs.
- Gather feedback from families and community partners to inform program improvements and expansion.
- Support shared-use opportunities and community-based program locations when applicable.
- Assist with grassroots marketing and outreach efforts by sharing program information through schools, community channels, and in-person engagement.
- Support tabling, demonstrations, and on-site promotion to increase enrollment.
- Encourage families to explore additional YMCA programs and services.
- Actively promote YMCA values and a sense of belonging in every interaction.
- Ensure a safe and positive program environment by following YMCA policies, procedures, and abuse prevention standards.
- Ensure facilities and equipment are clean, safe, properly set up, and stored; report maintenance concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate records and department files.
- Assist in complying with state, local, and YMCA regulations.
- Champion inclusion and culturally responsive practices.
- Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
- Travel locally during the business day; occasional out-of-area or overnight travel may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support YMCA operations and mission advancement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: 18 years
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One or more years of experience working with children or youth programs.
- Knowledge of youth sports.
- Strong customer service, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and work independently.
- Basic computer and office equipment skills.
- Current state-approved First Aid and CPR certifications (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- Experience coordinating or supervising programs or staff, preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations, preferred.
- Fluency in a second language, preferred.

The full range of the pay grade for this position is $20.06-$31.53.
