Duties
Assist In compiling and maintaining a comprehensive database of all patients diagnosed and/or treated for cancer to ensure accuracy and completeness of appropriate staging, coding and inclusion of all pertinent patient data.,Review standard and electronic patient medical records to identify cases of malignant disease, abstract and code information, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment.,Contact patients, physicians, and other healthcare facilities to update registry follow-up information, such as quality of life and length of survival of cancer patients.,Identify and code topography, morphology, and other relevant information for each reportable incidence of cancer.,Assist in providing cancer data to physicians, clinicians, epidemiologists and other researchers for cancer-related studies and research projects; and provide guidance to the command in the use of tumor registry data.

Basic Requirement for Medical Records Technician (Tumor Registry): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing patient medical records and compiling or maintaining a medical database. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
