    The North Plainfield School District, a culturally diverse school community in Somerset County serving 3,700 students Pre-K through grade 12, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative professional for the position of  School Counselor at Stony Brook School.

     

    For those still in the process of attaining certification, please know that the North Plainfield District is approved for participation in the NJDOE Limited Certificate Program which may allow you to work in a full time role as you complete your final certification requirement.

     

     Qualifications Include:

    • Certification as a School Counselor required
    • Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, social, and emotional challenges.
    • Assist students in developing academic and personal goals, and create action plans for achieving them.
    • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive learning environment.
    • Conduct classroom lessons on topics such as conflict resolution, peer relationships, study skills, and career exploration.
    • Address and mediate peer conflicts, disciplinary issues, and personal concerns.
    • Guide students in transitioning between grade levels and preparing for high school.
    • Assist in coordinating parent-teacher meetings and other school events.
    • Maintain detailed records of student progress and counseling sessions, while ensuring confidentiality.
    • Support students and families in crisis situations.
    • Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and external resources, such as mental health services or social workers.
    • Promote a positive school culture by advocating for the needs of students and promoting diversity and inclusion.
    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

       

    Salary: $69,630 (minimum) to $103,470 (maximum) commensurate with experience, pending negotiated agreement
