    Job Title:  Grounds – Lead Crew Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
    Reports to: Dept. Head – Grounds Pay Grade: DO 3 – 260 Days

    Primary Purpose:

     To provide students with an attractive and safe natural environment in which to learn. 

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:
    • Preferred High School Diploma or G.E.D.
    • Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier.
    Experience:
    • One (1) year experience groundskeeper preferred
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Ability to read English.
    • Ability to understand oral and written instructions
     

    Major Responsibilities and Duties

    Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping:
    1. Maintain and care for school grounds.
    2. Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer if needed.
    3. Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance.
    4. Experiment with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to the soil.
    5. Prune trees and trim hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.
    6. Mow lawns with power mower.
    7. Connect sprinkler equipment and water lawns and flower beds.
    8. Inspect flowers, shrubs, and tress for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests.
    9. Shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways and spread sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping.
    10. Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse.
     

    Safety

     
    1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
    2. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

     Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis 

    Environment:

    Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel

    Maintain emotional control under stress.
