Campbell County is seeking substitute custodians for our schools.
General Definition of Work:
Performs responsible unskilled work in the care and cleaning of school buildings, facilities and grounds; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Cleaning school building interiors and facilities; maintaining school grounds.
(The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
- Opens and secures building.
- Sweeps, strips, buffs, waxes or dust mops assigned areas; cleans carpet.
- Removes trash from buildings.
- Scrubs and cleans toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, etc.; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers.
- Dusts furniture, walls, windowsills and other woodwork; cleans windows.
- Sanitizes and cleans drinking fountains.
- Mows grass, weed eats, removes leaves; picks up paper and trash.
- Checks fire extinguishers, emergency lights and exit lights on a regular basis.
- Replaces bulbs in light fixtures.
- Hauls books and paper with hand truck; moves furniture.
- Changes combination locks.
- Cleans up spills and sanitizes areas following incidents involving bodily injuries.
- Reports any mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc. problem to the Head Custodian or principal.
- Assists with snow removal and ice control.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to read; thoroughness, cleanliness; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
Physical Requirements:
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
