Job Description

Who We Are

At Kyndryl, we design, build, manage and modernize the mission-critical technology systems that the world depends on every day. So why work at Kyndryl? We are always moving forward – always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities.

The Role

Job Purpose

The AMS Business Leader for Japan is accountable for establishing and scaling a profitable AMS business, driving revenue, margin, and customer outcomes through standardized, repeatable managed services offerings. This role shapes the Japan AMS strategy, operating model, and go-to-market approach in alignment with the global Applications, Data & AI (ADAI) direction, while ensuring delivery excellence and operational rigor.

Key Responsibilities

1) Strategy & Business Build

  • Define Japan AMS business strategy, target segments, priority accounts, and value propositions aligned to ADAI Leader priorities.
  • Build the AMS operating model (offer catalog, pricing principles, staffing model, governance, delivery playbooks, partner ecosystem).

2) P&L / Growth Outcomes

  • Own AMS growth outcomes for Japan: signings, revenue, gross profit, and portfolio health.
  • Drive contract renewals, scope expansion, and modernization-to-AMS conversions (e.g., transition from project delivery to run operations).

3) Customer & Market Leadership

  • Act as executive sponsor for key AMS customers; lead executive-level governance, QBRs, and transformation roadmaps.
  • Translate customer business challenges into AMS solution constructs across service towers; ensure commercial and contractual soundness.
  • Represent Japan AMS externally (industry events, key partner engagements) as required.

4) Delivery Excellence & Operational Governance

  • Ensure high-quality AMS delivery: SLA attainment, incident/problem/change excellence, service continuity, security/compliance adherence.
  • Drive standardization, automation, and productivity improvements (e.g., AIOps, runbook automation, AI-enabled operations) to improve margin and customer experience.
  • Implement governance with Delivery, Practices, and Partners; manage risk, escalations, and remediation plans.

Who You Are

Required

  • 10+ years in enterprise IT services with substantial experience in application operations / service delivery leadership.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling a services business (strategy → operating model → execution) with measurable revenue and margin outcomes.
  • Strong commercial and contract leadership: deal shaping, pricing concepts, governance, renewals and scope expansion.
  • Executive presence with ability to lead C-level customer engagements and complex stakeholder management.
  • Operational excellence mindset: ability to run governance, metrics, risk management, and escalations.
  • Leadership experience building teams and developing senior talent in matrixed organizations.
  • Business-level English and Japanese communication skills (written and verbal).

Preferred

  • Experience with large-scale AMS transformations (transition, stabilization, optimization) and modern operations approaches (AIOps, automation, SRE/ITIL evolution).
  • Domain depth in key Japan market areas (e.g., manufacturing, financial services) and experience with multi-vendor ecosystems.
  • Experience integrating modernization (cloud/app modernization, data/AI) into AMS “run” offerings.
