JOB SUMMARY
Performs highly complex work in the production and processing operation of the Metal Fabrication
Factory. Work involves monitoring the work of inmates to ensure efficient operations. Works under
limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Monitors inmates in the performance of assigned tasks; develops production standards; makes
recommendations on production procedure changes; monitors and reviews production to ensure
quality and quantity control of finished products; and monitors machinery and equipment
maintenance.
B. Ensures on-the-job and safety training is conducted for inmate workers in methods and
equipment used in production in the Metal Fabrication Factory.
C. Prepares reports of operations and related documents.
D. Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergency situations;
performs various correctional and custodial support functions; and assists in maintaining
security of assigned inmates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience, and Training
1. Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
2. One year full-time, wage-earning metal fabrication operation experience
or three years full-time, wage-earning experience in any production or manufacturing
operation.
3. Correctional custody or law enforcement experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
1. Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory levels of production.
2. Knowledge of production and workflow procedures.
3. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures,
rules, and regulations preferred.
4. Knowledge of methods and procedures for metal fabrication and properties of metal
preferred.
5. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
6. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the
public.
7. Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
8. Skill in problem-solving techniques.
9. Skill to train and supervise inmates.
10. Skill in the use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area preferred
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
A. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend
repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze,
alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate
motor equipment.
B. Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving
objects, working around moving objects or vehicles, radiant and electrical energy, working
closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, excessive heat,
excessive or intermittent noise, constant noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, oils,
solvents, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.
C. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include
computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, welding equipment,
oxygen-acetylene torch, sheet metal fabrication equipment, air rivet gun, power grinders,
sanders, staple guns, paint equipment, cloth cutter, iron workers equipment, hand saw, hand
tools, power tools, air tools, forklift, pallet jack, dolly, and automobile.
