Job Description

Grundy Center is seeking a dedicated and student-centered (.25 FTE) K–12 Talented and Gifted (TAG) Coordinator to support advanced learners in reaching their full potential. 


Position Summary: 


The K–12 Talented and Gifted (TAG) Coordinator facilitates student growth and success for advanced learners by supporting the identification, programming, and progress monitoring of gifted students. This position provides leadership in implementing district and state-aligned TAG programming, collaborates with staff to enhance differentiated instruction, and occasionally works directly with students to support the academic and social-emotional development of gifted learners.. The coordinator works to ensure equitable access to services while maintaining compliance with Iowa TAG requirements.


Essential Functions:



  1. Utilize multiple criteria to identify gifted and talented students within the total student population

  2. Monitor and support student growth and program effectiveness through data collection and analysis.

  3. Lead and annually update the District TAG Plan in collaboration with the TAG team, ensuring alignment with Iowa requirements.

  4. Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes.

  5. Provide direct support to identified students through individual plans, small group instruction, and facilitation of enrichment opportunities such as projects and competitions on occasion. 

  6. Facilitate communication with students, families, staff, and administration regarding TAG services and student progress.

  7. Provide or coordinate professional learning to strengthen staff capacity in meeting the needs of advanced learners.

  8. Participate in professional learning aligned with district priorities.

  9. Uphold collective responsibility for the success of all students and contribute to a positive school culture.


Knowledge and Skills



  • Knowledge of Iowa Talented and Gifted requirements, including identification, programming, and annual plan development, with the ability to design, implement, and monitor a K–12 TAG program.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies for advanced learners, including differentiation, enrichment, and acceleration, and the ability to support their implementation.

  • Skill in using multi-criteria identification processes and data analysis to inform student identification, placement, and program decisions.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and families, including strong communication, coaching, and team facilitation skills.
