Description
The National Fire Protection Association’s mission is to help save lives and reduce loss with information, knowledge, and passion. An international nonprofit established in 1896, we are dedicated to the elimination of death, injury, property, and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards. The Association delivers information and knowledge through more than 300 consensus codes and standards, research, training, education, outreach, and advocacy; and by partnering with others who share an interest in furthering the NFPA mission.
Formed in 1982 as the research affiliate of NFPA, the Fire Protection Research Foundation is an independent nonprofit whose mission is to plan, manage and communicate research in support of the association.
Since then, the Foundation has facilitated major research programs (both domestic and international in scope) that address industry challenges in multiple areas, including building fire protection strategies, impact of emerging technologies on fire safety, warehouse storage protection, energy transition, wildfire, firefighter health and safety, and firefighter protective clothing and equipment, among other issues.
The NFPA Research Foundation is seeking a Senior Research Project Manager-Electrical with experience in the electrical field. The role focuses on facilitation of research projects and programs through management of financials, communications and technical support. This role also liaises with stakeholders to help shape the research including representatives from the research community, electrical industry, building design community, electrical inspectors and enforcers, NFPA technical committees, and other stakeholders. Findings from the Foundation’s critically applied research have been used by NFPA’s technical committee members and others to support the association’s fire and life safety codes and standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Grow the electrical safety research portfolio at the Foundation
- Oversee the conduct of funded projects including the management of requests for proposals, project panel activities, sponsor communications, contractor progress and activities, and reports, to ensure successful project completion.
- Develop technical and financial support for Foundation projects to meet budgetary and program objectives.
- Manage project financials including fundraising, budgeting, confirming and monitoring sponsor contributions, and monitoring of project costs including contracts and other project costs to meet project goals.
- Identify opportunities for research funding and coordinate proposals and fundraising efforts.
- Facilitate research program planning in conjunction with Foundation planning councils, NFPA Technical Committees, and industry groups in order to document research agendas and support development of projects.
- Implement communications within selected program areas including industry meetings, general Foundation outreach, and internal NFPA communications to maintain the Foundation’s public presence.
- Advise and act as a subject matter expert and technical resource for relevant NFPA activities. Interact with and respond to media inquiries as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Professional electrical license (journeyman or master electrician, electrical inspector, or electrical engineer)
- 7-10 years of experience in the electrical field with 3+ project management experience is required
- Strong understanding of the NEC®
- Fundamental knowledge and experience with the Electrical Cycle of Safety ™ (NFPA 70, 70E, and 70B) is required.
- Highly skilled communicator with an exceptional ability to connect with others and explain complex topics
- Grant writing experience a plus
- Solid experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)
- Strong attention to detail
- Up to 25% travel
