Job Title:                     Head of Engineering

Reporting Line:           Head of Technology

Collectivus is creating a new Head of Engineering role to lead how technology is architected, built, and delivered across the organization. This leader will own engineering standards, system architecture, and platform delivery across our global technology ecosystem.

The Head of Engineering ensures that systems are designed correctly from the outset, implemented once rather than repeatedly rebuilt, and scaled efficiently as the organization grows. This role enables execution of Collectivus’ strategy by building reliable, scalable platforms that support multiple brands, geographies, and business models without increasing operational complexity. Accountable for how technology is engineered across Collectivus, ensuring platforms are scalable, maintainable, and aligned to long-term business outcomes.

This is a hands-on strategic leadership role focused on building technology the right way, establishing engineering discipline, architectural standards, and delivery quality across front-end and back-end systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise Engineering & Platform Delivery

  •  Own engineering architecture and delivery quality across enterprise platforms, including:
    • ERP
    • eCommerce platforms
    • Mobile applications
    • CRM systems
    • PLM platforms
    • POS systems
    • Integrations and middleware
    • Data and analytics platforms
  • Define and enforce engineering standards, development practices, and platform design principles.
  • Ensure systems are architected for scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Lead architectural decision-making for major initiatives and transformations.
  • Establish reusable frameworks and shared services to avoid duplicated development across brands.
  • Drive platform-first thinking rather than brand-specific customization.

Engineering Organization Leadership

  • Lead and develop engineering teams across application development, integration, and platform engineering.
  • Define engineering role structure, capability models, and growth paths.
  • Hire, mentor, and elevate senior engineers and technical leads.
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and engineering excellence.
  • Align engineering capacity with enterprise portfolio demand in partnership with the PMO.
  • Conduct performance management and talent planning.
  • Develop succession depth and technical leadership bench strength.
  • This role is accountable not only for architecture decisions, but for the performance and maturity of the engineering organization itself.

Architecture & Technical Governance

  • Serve as the organization’s authority on system architecture and engineering best practices.
  • Implement architectural governance processes that ensure consistency across business units and regions.
  • Evaluate technology decisions to balance speed, cost, and long-term scalability.
  • Reduce technical debt through standardized approaches and disciplined engineering practices.
  • Ensure integrations and data flows are designed as enterprise capabilities rather than point solutions.
  • Govern data flows, API standards, and security architecture patterns.
  • Develop succession depth and technical leadership bench strength.
  • This role is accountable not only for architecture decisions, but for the performance and maturity of the engineering organization itself.

Delivery Execution & Engineering Quality

  • Standardize SDLC processes across teams.
  • Implement quality controls: code review standards, automated testing, CI/CD discipline.
  • Partner with Product, IT, and business leaders to translate strategic objectives into scalable technical solutions.
  • Improve engineering delivery predictability, timelines, and quality outcomes.
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering methodologies and platform-first thinking.

Vendor & Implementation Oversight

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for system integrators, development partners, and external vendors.
  • Ensure implementation partners follow architectural standards and avoid unnecessary customization.
  • Improve vendor accountability and technical execution outcomes.
  • Evaluate build vs. buy decisions with long-term cost awareness.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with IT Operations, Data, Product, Finance, PMO and Business leaders to align technology delivery with operational needs.
  • Collaborate with IT Operations to ensure operational stability.
  • Support global scalability across multiple brands and international markets.
  • Act as a senior technical advisor to executive leadership on platform investments and engineering strategy.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or enterprise technology leadership roles.
  • Proven experience architecting and delivering complex enterprise platforms (ERP, commerce, CRM, mobile, or data ecosystems).
  • Demonstrated success in building scalable, standards-driven engineering environments.
  • Experience leading engineering teams (not just influencing).
  • Strong background in system integrations, APIs, and enterprise architecture design.
  • Experience managing or influencing external system integrators and technical vendors.
  • Experience governing multi-platform ecosystems.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into technical architecture decisions.
  • Strong vendor management and technical oversight experience.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder alignment skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in multi-brand, multi-entity, or global operating environments.
  • Background supporting distribution, eCommerce, consumer products, or technology-enabled businesses.
  • Experience in modernizing legacy systems or leading large-scale platform implementations.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and modern development frameworks.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Platforms are implemented once and scale across the organization.
  • Engineering delivery becomes faster and more predictable.
  • Technical debt and unnecessary customization decrease over time.
  • Systems integrate cleanly across brands and regions.
  • Vendors follow enterprise standards.
  • Engineering talent grows, and retention improves.
  • Technology enables growth without increasing operational complexity.
