Job Description

Part Time Choir Accompanist

 

Position Summary

The Choir Accompanist provides piano accompanying support for the assigned choirs and musical groups. Supports the Choir Director in all aspects of choral performance as directed.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

●    Accompany Chorus rehearsals (approx 6.5 hours per week) 

●    Provide piano accompaniment for all classroom rehearsals

●    Attends and provides accompanying for dress and tech rehearsals

●    Accompanies sectionals as needed. Runs sectionals as needed

●    May provide accompaniment for auditions

●    Prepare recording of rehearsal CDs as requested

●    Accompany Chorus and student performances at various choir-related events

●    Meetings and communication

●    Provide other assistance as requested and agreed upon

 

Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in piano is preferred

Experience: 2-3 years of experience as a working as a piano accompanist in an academic setting is preferred

Special Skills:

 

•    Ability to play the piano at a college piano performance level is required

•    Ability to play effectively in all genres of music on the piano, including Baroque, Romantic, Classical, 20th Century, modern, and jazz

•    Proficiency at sight-reading choral music parts

•    Professional and friendly disposition

 

Type of fingerprint clearance: Shall be fingerprint checked pursuant to A.R.S 15-512

Physical functions: The employee must have manual dexterity to play piano; required to sit; may require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds; ability to push large instruments

Equipment used: Piano

Work Environment: This position primarily works indoors in a classroom setting. Occasionally the duties that require being outdoors working at school functions and community events.

 

Travel: This position requires the ability to travel to and from school events and activities. Must be available to accompany choirs and students for choir-related tours, festivals, competitions, and other events
