High School Physical Education Teacher

Supervises:  Teacher aide if applicable

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Plans and implements the instructional program for assigned subject area(s) following the school and school division policies and procedures and the Virginia Standards of Learning.

  • Employs a variety of teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the range of student abilities and needs, including available instructional technology.

  • Monitors student behavior and maintains discipline for a safe learning environment. Models and encourages appropriate behavior standards acceptable in the school community.

  • Maintains student records as required by the school, school division, and the state of Virginia policies and procedures. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding student information.

  • Participates in the testing program by utilizing appropriate instructional strategies to assist students in the highest levels of achievement. Follows all school, school division rules and regulations and state and federal laws regarding testing.

  • Effectively communicates with parents regarding their child’s educational progress via periodic written reports and verbal communications including, but not limited to scheduled progress reports, report cards, Tuesday Folders (at RCES), and parent/teacher conference days as per school and school division policies and procedures.

  • Works cooperatively with supervisors and colleagues in order to ensure continuous improvement in providing the highest quality educational program and the safest and most inviting educational environment.

  • Participates in professional development opportunities for personal and professional growth.

  • Plans, attends and/or participates in special events as requested by administrators including, but not limited to, field trips, school assemblies, PTO, athletic events.

  • Maintains the appropriate license for the subject area(s) in the state of Virginia.

  • Follows the regulations and policies of the Rappahannock County Public Schools and the laws of the state of Virginia.

  • Other duties as assigned by school administrators.


 


MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE


Four year degree from an accredited college or university on the state of Virginia approved list.  Hold a Virginia license in the appropriate teaching area or eligibility for a Virginia license with application for the Virginia license with 90 days of employment.  If acquiring a provisional license, show continuous yearly progress toward achieving a clear Virginia license with the three year period.


 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:


Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including but not limited to computers, facsimile machines, copy machines, athletic equipment, etc.  Frequent walking, stooping, standing, running, jumping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds. For example, the employee must be able to transport supplies such as paper, student records, books, laptop, physical education equipment, etc. from one space to another.


 


Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;  hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work. Travel may be required. Candidate must possess the ability to work with special needs students. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person may be necessary. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
