    Job Title: Advanced Academic Advisor

    Exemption Status/Test: Exempt

    Dept./School: Splendora Early College High School

     

    Primary Purpose:

    Develop and review personal graduation plans and work with parents and students on gaining a better understanding of House Bill 5 Endorsements and graduation requirements; assist students in becoming college and career-ready.

     

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    Bachelor's Degree

    Teacher Certification in English Language Arts and Reading 7�12 preferred

     

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Excellent communication & organization skills 

    Knowledge of House Bill 5 (implementation and impact) 

    Knowledge of the course sequence and prerequisites  

    Knowledge of college entrance requirements and pathways

     

    Experience:

    Experience at a high school or university, assisting students with transitioning from high school to college

     

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Instructional and Program Management

    1. Plan and deliver instruction for college readiness, focusing on study skills, academic behaviors, and TSIA2 preparation.
    2. Develop presentations to educate students and parents on HB 5 Endorsements, graduation requirements, and personal graduation plans, course options, and college and career requirements.
    3. Assist campus counselors with student registration activities and district parent meetings.
    4. Work cooperatively with district leaders and campus principals to develop and supervise instructional programs
    5. Collaborate with and provide assistance to other school team members who may integrate HB 5 with other curriculum activities.
    6. Coordinate the campus dual credit process for Splendora High School and ECHS students.
    7. Assist students with enrolling in dual credit classes and monitor grades and student progress on a weekly basis.
    8. Coordinate with campus counselors and shared educational planners on college and career services.
    9. Coordinate presentations addressing academic requirements and topics on distinguished achievement, endorsements, automatic admissions, college prep courses, dual credit, and financial aid.
    10. Maintain accurate records (e.g., dual credit grades, student management file, monthly campus activities).
    11. Seek out scholarship and summer enrichment opportunities to share with students; assist students in completing and submitting admissions, scholarships, and financial aid applications.
    12. Assist students in interpreting correspondence from institutes of higher education, including admissions and financial aid.
    13. Assist students in registering for SAT, ACT, AP exams, and TSIA2.
    14. Provide parent and student advising at new student registration, regarding student progress, as needed throughout the year.
    15. Provide advising to students regarding academic matters
    16. Provide advising to teachers regarding student concerns.
    17. Interpret assessment data and test results while advising with parents, students, and school staff in order to assist in formulating realistic goals for students (e.g., state-mandated testing; career planning survey; special program testing).
    18. Coordination of college and career information, such as: 

    ? Field trips and other experiential activities.

    ? Provide post-high school, college, and career information

    18. Meet with students on an as-needed basis to address school adjustment issues and assess student needs for additional intervention from school, home, or community services. 

    19. Support the development and implementation of campus mentoring programs. 

    20. Participate in and contribute to district and campus leadership teams, including: 

    ? Campus administrative team. 

    ? Counselor meetings and committees 

    21. Support campus programs and special events. 

    22. Contribute articles to campus publications regarding activities and services of the guidance and counseling program. 

    23. Provide staff development at campus and district levels, regarding HB 5, graduation requirements, and college and career awareness 

    24. Provide and/or support parenting education programs at campus and district levels. 

    25. Assist in coordinating other campus standardized and field-testing programs. 

    26. Participate in professional growth activities to maintain current counseling practices. 

    27. Administer standardized tests, interpret results, and maintain records as required by law. 

    28. Counsel individuals and groups of students with educational and career planning information when appropriate. 

    29. Counsel individuals and groups of students regarding needs and concerns and advise with parents, teachers, administrators, and other individuals when appropriate. 

    30. Remain current with the application of various technology systems and state and local updates as they apply to graduation requirements and college and career preparedness. 

    31. Serve as a liaison between the district, campuses, and community partners to support academic initiatives and student opportunities

    32. Communicate program information to parents and community stakeholders as needed

    33. Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and required documentation

    34. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures

    35. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning

    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including a personal computer and peripherals

    Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

    Other Information: 

    The District contributes $330 monthly toward the cost of the employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.
