About the Department

Lake County Public Works is seeking three Operations/Maintenance summer interns to work from May through August. Becoming an intern with Public Works will allow you to perform work of moderate difficulty and to complete a variety of routine maintenance and/or operations assignments related to water distribution and sanitary sewer infrastructure.

Position Duties

  • The jobs are manual in nature and will require the individual to work outside under various weather conditions.
  • Assist in the repair, replacement and restoration of water/sewer mains, piping, valves, and hydrants.
  • Daily logs of plant operations, including flow recordings from hydrants, meters, pumps.
  • Maintain and operate public water supplies, sanitary sewer systems and preventative/routine building and grounds maintenance under supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, or mechanics is an advantage.
  • Basic computer skills.

Education and/or Other Requirements:

  • This is an internship position…high school and college students are encouraged to apply.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must have the ability to effectively problem solve.
  • Must have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere.
  • Valid driver’s license supplemented by a satisfactory driving record.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and digging.
  • Pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

 These roles are 40 hours a week Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed.  Start and end times are 7:00a.m – 3:30p.m.
