POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. Create a positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with lesson plans and YMCA guidelines. 


• Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helping to build the connection with the YMCA.  Encourage parental involvement and identify potential volunteers.


• Share information on aquatics programming and subsequent schedules.  As appropriate refer students and parents to other YMCA programs.


• Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but not limited to attendance sheets, progress reports and accident/incident forms.


• Understand, communicate and consistently apply all safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.


• Report any unsafe conditions/equipment to supervisor immediately.


• Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.

Child Protection Responsibilities:

• Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.


• Participates in required abuse risk management training.


• Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.


• Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.


• Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
