ECTB61H3 - English and Chinese Translation: Theory and Practice - Summer 2026


 


Course description: An introduction to the major concepts and theories of translation and a survey of English/Chinese translation in modern history. It discusses linguistic, cognitive, socio-political, and cultural aspects of translation. Through analysis and application of translation theory, students practice the art of translation and develop awareness of issues that translators face.

Salary: In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the rate of pay applicable for Sessional Instructional Assistants will be: $54.27/hour, excluding vacation pay. 

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate experience in the discipline. 


 


Preferred Qualifications: Past English and Chinese bilingual grading experience on Quercus/Discussions at the university level and a strong English and Chinese bilingual studies and translation background. Preference will be given to students who have graduated from the English and Chinese Translation Minor at UTSC.


 



 


Duties: maintaining an online discussion board, grading assignments and alternative methods of evaluation (tests/exams), uploading and calculating final grades.
