Overview:
The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for performing assigned swim instruction program duties, including class planning and delivery, and ensuring a safe environment for participants. The Swim Lesson Instructor will rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned program area. Additionally, they are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policies and requirements.
Must be available Sundays 10am-4pm
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce safety rules and follow appropriate discipline guidelines.
- Ensure that practice time is sufficient for all students to learn skills.
- Follow logical skill progressions and covers appropriate amount on information in time available.
- Recognize and correct improper strokes or skills using positive feedback.
- Communicate effectively with students in a patient and friendly manner.
- Administer First Aid and/or CPR as necessary.
- Report any hazards or problems to Thoreau Club Leadership immediately.
- Educate participants regarding rules and regulations of pool area.
- Work effectively with others.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 16 years of age.
- Current American Red Cross WSI Certification.
- Current CPR/AED and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
- Experience instructing swim lessons preferred but not required.
- Must pass written and/or practical skills exam prior to duty.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents, and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
- Ability to adequately observe participants activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
