Position Summary
Zachry Underground Utility Services (ZUUS) is seeking an Area Operations Manager to lead non-highway underground utility and civil construction projects throughout the region. This role is responsible for the safe, timely, and profitable execution of multiple projects, with a focus on water, sewer, drainage, and related infrastructure. The Area Operations Manager provides leadership to Project Managers and field teams while ensuring strong performance in planning, execution, contract management, and client relationships.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee multiple underground utility projects, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance goals are met
- Lead project execution planning, including staffing, sequencing, and resource allocation across the region
- Ensure safety is the highest priority by partnering with Safety teams and reinforcing a strong safety culture
- Monitor project performance including cost control, schedule adherence, productivity, and risk mitigation
- Lead contract administration and change management efforts to protect contractual rights and maximize profitability
- Optimize utilization of labor, equipment, and materials across projects
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, company standards, and project controls requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, municipalities, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Mentor and develop Project Managers and field leadership to strengthen team performance
- Coordinate regional staffing and resource planning in alignment with company needs
- Follow all safety rules, policies, and procedures
- Perform additional duties as directed by supervisor
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 10+ years of construction management experience in underground utilities, civil, or heavy construction required
- Strong knowledge of underground utility construction including water, sewer, and drainage systems preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred
- OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Proven ability to lead multiple project teams and deliver profitable results
- Strong understanding of project controls, contract administration, and change management
- Ability to drive productivity and optimize labor and equipment resources
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle
