Job Description
The Mechanical Engineering Section Manager is part of Lethality Engineering and has responsibility for the capabilities, processes, and people management of a cross-site team focused on the design, development, and integration of various weapon systems. The Mechanical Engineering Section Manager will be the supervisor of record for individual contributors and will report directly to the Lethality Engineering Functional Manager.
The Mechanical Engineering Section Manager collaborates with program leads for staffing needs, performs comprehensive planning relative to functional capacity and capability, and maintains the technical vitality of people, processes, and infrastructure for the functional discipline. The Mechanical Engineering Section Manager collaborates with other Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Engineering functional and section managers to ensure that design work is performed consistently with product design procedures. We work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, and our hybrid approach provides plenty of on-site collaboration and support for new staff onboarding as well as the flexibility for working remotely some days.

As a section manager, you will:
- Supervise a team of 10-20 engineers and contractors of various experience levels in the design, development, production support, and integration of various weapon systems.
- Develop engineering staff through work assignments and training to ensure technical competence and a competitive skill mix.
- Ensure efficient utilization of staff, manage budgets, and make strategic decisions about workforce balance and development.
- Hold monthly reviews with staff, provide performance feedback, and solicit input from stakeholders to foster collaborative career development.
- Provide annual performance assessments including providing positive and constructive feedback.
- Be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and relevance of functional processes, as well as compliance with applicable standards.
- Integrate and standardize functional processes across Combat Mision Systems engineering, capture historical performance records, and maintain Engineering Estimating Tables and Cost Estimating Relationships.
- Ensure the availability and efficiency of functional engineering design and analysis tools and services.
- Provide technical expertise to programs and projects through participation in design reviews, Life Cycle Management (LCM) reviews, and bid and proposal support.

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree with 10+ years of applicable experience.
