Job Description

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, GEMCO Constructors is a national MEP, building automation, and service contractor delivering comprehensive design-build solutions across the United States, with licenses and certifications in 30+ states.

 

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Technician to serve as a field technical lead on our national service team. In this role, you will take ownership of complex diagnostics, large-scale system installations, and major repairs while serving as the primary mentor and trainer for Level 1 and 2 technicians in the field. This is a hands-on leadership position for a seasoned professional who is as comfortable teaching advanced diagnostic techniques as they are executing them.

 

What You'll Do

Technical

  • Execute complex troubleshooting, retrofits, system startups, and major repairs on chillers, boilers, large refrigeration systems, BAS, PLCs, and custom controls
  • Recover, charge, and balance refrigerant systems; diagnose compressors, expansion devices, and control logic
  • Complete final connections on split and ductless installs, including brazing, flaring, and power and control wiring
  • Serve as on-site technical escalation point; design corrective actions and coordinate root-cause analysis with engineering and management

Leadership & Training

  • Provide structured, in-person mentorship and on-the-job training for Level 1 and 2 technicians
  • Conduct formal skills evaluations, competency assessments, and performance feedback
  • Develop and maintain training materials, SOPs, and field checklists
  • Lead crews on complex projects; manage parts and spec orders

Compliance & Safety

  • Oversee quality assurance on PMs, installations, and repairs
  • Enforce EPA, OSHA, and lockout/tagout protocols at all job sites
  • Maintain accurate documentation in work order and training management systems

 

What You Bring

  • Advanced HVAC certification or journeyman-level qualification; 7+ years of relevant field experience
  • EPA 608 Universal certification required
  • Deep expertise in refrigeration, BAS, VFDs, PLCs, and electrical diagnostics
  • Proven training and mentorship experience with ability to conduct formal evaluations
  • Valid driver's license; ability to travel nationally per rotation
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs., work at heights up to 100 feet, and operate in confined/industrial environments
