All positions within the Alaska State Troopers support or carry out this mission.This position fills an essential role towards the success of D Detachment, the Department and its mission by managing and maintaining the most critical and complex aspects of cases, property and evidence. Not only does this support our mission, but it aligns with protecting victims and their rights.
While the commissioned Troopers are on the front lines, the civilian staff work just as hard ensuring everything behind the scenes runs smooth and maintains the necessary integrity. THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
This position is located in Fairbanks at D Detachment Headquarters. You will be working closely with another CJT/Evidence Custodian in numerous settings, including office, evidence storage inside Post, outside storage and off-site property and evidence storage facilities. Your daily work environments will shift between physical management of evidence and property indoors/outdoors, clean/dirty, large/miniscule, weapons, drugs, jewelry, electronics etc. to computer work with ARMS, APSIN, Digital Evidence, Microsoft Office programs etc. to interactions with the public in customer service aspects returning property, answering questions, advising of procedures and numerous others.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Position Duties
CRIMINAL JUSTICE TECHNICIAN 1:
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

CRIMINAL JUSTICE TECHNICIAN 2:
Successful completion of training under a formally established Criminal Justice Technician 1-2 flexible staffing training plan with the State of Alaska.

Minimum Qualifications

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 levels, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level of the position. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will only occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, and the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the higher job class, and final approval by the supervisor. It is recommended and encouraged that you apply for any level for which you qualify.

This position requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition. In accordance with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208), if you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, you may not hold this position.
A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" is an offense that is (1) a misdemeanor under Federal or state law; and (2) has, as an element, the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian, or by a person similarly situated to a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim.
If you have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, do NOT apply for this position.
BACKGROUND CHECK
This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT
The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
