Position Summary:

The Engineering Technician III (Maintenance) is an advanced technical expert responsible for driving equipment reliability, precision, and performance within the Fox Gainesville Machine Shop. This role owns complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and maintenance strategies across CNC machining and supporting systems.

Acting as a critical link between Engineering, Manufacturing, and Maintenance, this position leads equipment-related problem solving, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Own and execute preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for CNC lathes, mills, saw cutters, laser engraving systems, and all supporting equipment (hydraulic, pneumatic, coolant, vacuum).

  • Lead advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system failures.

  • Diagnose and repair complex components including servo systems, spindles, drive motors, encoders, ball screws, and CNC/laser control systems.

  • Collaborate with Engineering on equipment upgrades, retrofits, and process improvements.

  • Develop and improve PM standards, checklists, and maintenance procedures.

  • Ensure high CMMS data integrity (Maintenance Connection), including accurate documentation, failure tracking, and trend analysis.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime, reliability, and cost reduction.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to maintenance technicians; set standards for troubleshooting and repair practices.

  • Support equipment installations, layout changes, and commissioning activities.

  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE.
     

Specific Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required:

  • Expert-level knowledge of CNC machine tools (DMG MORI, Mazak, Okuma, Haas, etc.), laser systems, and machining support equipment.

  • Strong expertise in PLC systems, servo drives, motion control, and CNC control architectures.

  • Advanced ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics

  • Strong working knowledge of CMMS systems and data-driven maintenance practices.

  • Knowledge of laser safety, optics handling, and high-voltage systems.

  • Proven ability to lead technical problem-solving and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills.

  • Computer competency using Microsoft Office.

  • Travel is required.

Position Qualifications:

Education:

HS graduate or equivalent

AA degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience

Experience: 

3+ years of CNC maintenance experience.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Manufacturing Environment

Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly

Requires walking, standing, bending and lifting for long periods of time

Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer

Travel required 1 week/quarter
