About the Department

Lee County Parks & Recreation is looking for Lifeguards who enjoy working outdoors, staying active, and helping keep our community safe. In this hands-on role, you will watch over the pool, help swimmers, respond to emergencies, and make sure everyone has a safe and fun experience. You will work closely with other lifeguards and staff while building valuable skills in safety, teamwork, and leadership.
Training courses are available through the County for applicants who are not yet certified.
Position Duties
What You Will Do:
Watch over the pool and surrounding area to keep swimmers safe
Rescue swimmers who are in trouble and give first aid when needed
Enforce pool rules and help maintain a safe environment
Teach swimming lessons
Collect and record payments for pool programs
Help with pool cleaning and basic maintenance
Practice and document rescue skills, CPR, and First Aid
Perform other duties to support pool operations
Minimum Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
Education
Completion of the 10th grade (or similar experience)
Certifications
StarGuard Lifeguard certification (Starfish Aquatics Institute)
First Aid and CPR certification (Starfish Aquatics Institute)
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Learn-to-Swim Instructor certification
Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening (fingerprinting)
If you are not yet certified, training courses are available to help you get the required certifications.
Fingerprint Screening Requirement:

Training & Dates
Mandatory lifeguard in-service training: June 10, 2026
Camp/Pool season: June 10 – August 8, 2026
Must commit to the full season, including training

You must be able to work outdoors in all weather
Must bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs
Work hours may vary
Pool staffing may change based on attendance and program needs. Low enrollment may result in schedule changes, relocation, or layoff.
