Under the supervision of the Health Promotion Educator the Team Lead Peer Health Educator will be a member of a team responsible for researching, creating, delivering and evaluating interactive health/wellness campaigns and programs.
Job Description:
The Team Lead Peer Health Educator will lead and work collaboratively with a team to facilitate health campaigns and programs, as well as deliver workshops on topics including mental health and wellness, sexual health, alcohol and drug use, stress and resiliency, sleep, healthy relationships, and food insecurity, along with other emerging health issues.
The PHE will provide peer-to-peer support to students, including offering basic mental health support, sharing resources, and facilitating connections to appropriate on-campus services.
The incumbent is expected to support targeted health events, engage meaningfully with students, contribute to social media outreach, and help foster a healthy and inclusive campus community. Additionally, the PHE will support efforts to ensure that the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre and the Wellness HUB maintain a dynamic and visible presence on campus throughout the academic year.
Duties:
Attend and help facilitate mandatory weekly meetings, including coordinating agendas and supporting team engagement
Coordinate and lead regular team check-ins, maintaining clear and consistent communication with team members
Research and design communication campaigns based on facts, stats, and relevance for the student community
Create engaging materials to educate students on various health issues through multiple communication methods (in-person workshops and virtual delivery)
Support and guide team members in the development and delivery of outreach initiatives and programming
Be actively involved in social media communications
Actively manage and support displays, events, and other outreach activities, including delegating tasks where appropriate
Deliver workshops and presentations and/or engage students in activities
Demonstrate initiative within the Wellness HUB by identifying needs, supporting peers, and contributing to a positive team environment
Comfortably engage students in conversations about their health and wellness
Maintain a strong understanding of Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre services
Work both independently and as part of a team, while fostering collaboration among team members
Continuously monitor the success of projects or tasks, support team reflection, and identify opportunities for improvement
Work in accordance with established standards and expectations for the Wellness HUB, as outlined during training
Training and Skills:
To be considered a successful candidate, the student must be able to attend the mandatory 3-day training session. This training will take place the week before term starts: Tuesday September 1st – Thursday September 4th from 9am-4pm. These training hours will be paid.

Building confidence in initiating and navigating supportive conversations with students
Recognizing when and how to refer students to appropriate campus and community supports
Creating inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environments for diverse student populations
Supporting student wellbeing through health promotion and informal education
Professional and Interpersonal Development:
Ability to access, analyze, and apply knowledge from multiple disciplines
Professionalism, including honesty, integrity, and ethical decision-making
Cultural awareness and the ability to recognize and respect diverse perspectives
Must be able to commit between 5-10 hours a week
Job Qualifications:
Current Brock University student in good academic standing
Demonstrated interest in health promotion, wellness, and supporting student well-being
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage peers in meaningful and respectful conversations
Ability to provide peer-to-peer support using active listening, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach
Comfortable discussing topics related to mental health, sexual health, substance use, and overall wellness
Awareness of peer-to-peer support limits and ability to appropriately refer students to campus and community resources
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations
Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and support team collaboration
Demonstrated leadership experience or interest in developing leadership skills (e.g., leading groups, mentoring peers, or coordinating projects)
Ability to take initiative in coordinating tasks, supporting peers, and contributing to a positive and accountable team environment
Confidence in facilitating group discussions, leading meetings, or guiding team activities
Organizational and time management skills, including the ability to coordinate responsibilities, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
Experience with or willingness to learn workshop facilitation, public speaking, and outreach engagement
Creativity and interest in developing educational campaigns, events, and social media content
Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and creating welcoming spaces for all students, including fostering inclusive team environments
Reliability and ability to attend mandatory meetings, training sessions, and scheduled shifts
