Summary: 

The Food Safety Quality Assurance Technician (FSQA) conducts activities concerned with the quality assurance of the production processes, materials, and products by performing the following duties.  

Essential Functions: 

  • Conducts standardized tests on products and materials to ensure compliance with internal standards, customer specifications and international, federal and state regulations. 

  • Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with HACCP standards and company policies and procedures.

  • Records test data such as weights, temperatures, moisture content, qualities and quantities inspected or graded.

  • Applies proper acceptance/rejection criteria and marks items with details such as grade and acceptance or rejection status.

  • Audits production facility and reviews employee behavior for proper sanitation.

  • Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to Production/QA Management.

  • Identifies work related problems and recommends effective solutions as appropriate.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of company, government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.

Travel/On-Call Requirements:  Not required for this position.

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly rate of $22.07-$25.98 per hour.

Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • A minimum of 1 year experience in food processing

Preferred Education & Experiences:

  • Three years of experience in food processing

  • One year of experience in Quality Assurance in a food processing facility

  • HACCP Certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of food manufacturing environment

  • Basic understanding food safety protocols used in food manufacturing. 

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate data recording.

  • Strong Time Management skills.

  • Strong communication skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fastpaced work environment.

  • Ability to follow written procedures 

  • Ability clearly document issues, corrective actions and product disposition.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments 

Work environment: 

While performing the duties of the job employees will be exposed to warm humid environments as well as short term exposure to freezing temperatures. Will be required to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products.

Work Ability Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel and crouch.

The employee lifts and carries objects up to 5 lbs regularly and up to 30 lbs occasionally.
