    Job Title: Clinical Social Worker

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    Under general supervision, supports and provides mental health services for students and families. Works with others to plan and integrate services to meet the needs of students District-wide. Provides related crisis training for teachers, administrators and staff members. Reports to the Director of Student Services.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

    Provides appropriate and timely mental health crisis intervention services.

    Establishes a process for student referrals and communicates it with staff.

    Prepares for emergencies, responds quickly providing the necessary support.

    Provides developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions for children and families

    Utilizes mental health assessments to develop treatment plans with measurable and observable goals. Completes due process forms prior to formal assessments.

    Documents all therapeutic interventions as directed. Maintains files as directed.

    Uses sound judgement and strict confidentiality when working with students and families.

    Utilizes flexible scheduling to accommodate parents, students and staff.

    Provides mental health services and group therapy for students.

    Provides training for staff, parents defining the services that are offered and intervention strategies.

    Provides the appropriate related training for students, establishes a student and parent hot-line for emergencies.

    Provides in-home therapy for students as needed. Works with child welfare and victim programs.

    Collaborates with the appropriate local agencies to assist with training and informational sessions for staff, parents and students.

    Participates in community events and presents workshops and training to ensure that parents and students have the information concerning services that are provided to them by the District.

    Attends trainings and professional development sessions to stay abreast of current practices and trends in student behavior.

    Adheres to HIPPA and FERPA regulations.

    Utilizes strong interpersonal skills when working with students, family and staff.

    Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.

    Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

     

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS

     

    Education and Experience:

    Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university; must be certified as a clinical social worker; any other educational requirements determined by SC State Department of Education; two years of experience treating school-age students who have experienced trauma, neglect etc.; working knowledge of child and family development.

     

    Knowledge:

    Knowledge of school social work services including prevention, assessment, and intervention; knowledgeable of state and federal regulations and compliance requirements applicable to providing therapeutic services; knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained; knows child abuse laws; basic legal knowledge pertaining to providing therapeutic services to students; Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to social.

     

    Skills/Effort:

    Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply state and federal regulations; ability to effectively apply knowledge of school social services including prevention, assessment, and intervention; advanced human relations, communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students, their parents, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job; ability to complete, process, and maintain all required records, reports, and confidential information; ability to plan and act in emergency situations.

     

    Working Conditions:

    School/office environment with little significant exposure to environmental conditions; physical demands are restricted to school activities requiring the movement/lifting of items weighing up to ten pounds; local travel required; occasional overnight travel required.
