Position Summary
As a member of the bike rental team, you will be responsible for setting up bikes correctly for guests, renting equipment, and checking equipment in and out. You will size and fit helmets and protective pads, and provide basic instruction on proper bike use. You will also wash bikes and assist with basic maintenance of the rental fleet, while helping maintain a clean and organized rental shop. Experience with bike service, tools, and componentry is strongly preferred, and knowledge of the Mt. Bachelor trail system is a plus. This is an indoor/outdoor role that requires extended periods of standing, bending, pushing, reaching, and riding bikes. Strong guest service and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Provide rental bike expertise to guests, employees, and key mountain departments.
Assist with mountain bike maintenance, safety inspections, and accurate documentation related to fleet service and rental operations.
Perform daily opening and closing procedures, including cashier station setup, tool maintenance and cleaning, and signage.
Operate the cash register with accuracy and attention to detail.
Inspect, tune, and adjust rental bicycles, ensuring proper setup when checking bikes out to guests.
Correctly size and fit helmets, pads, spine protection, and bike shoes.
Ensure all rental equipment is checked in properly and accounted for.
Maintain shop cleanliness and organization, including daily cleaning, upkeep, inventory management, and special projects such as locating missing equipment.
Participate in training programs and attend department meetings.
Provide guests with information about the resort, rental, and repair services, as well as available products and equipment.
Promote safety for both guests and employees by following all procedures and best practices.
Follow proper release of liability procedures.
Perform regular fleet inspections and basic maintenance, or communicate repair needs to service technicians.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Secondary Function
As needed, you will provide guests with basic mountain biking tips and riding guidance and assist with overall needs in the Mountain Gateway building.
Interpersonal Contacts
Must be able to develop meaningful relationships at all levels of the organization to ensure a collaborative and productive workplace. Including but not limited to: Great Rentals team, Retail, Guest Services, and Human Resources, as well as brand representatives, industry distributors, corporate partners, and general resort guests.
Specific Job Skills
Licenses/Certifications: Ability to learn essential product knowledge provided by the manufacturer, certification, or completion of bike mechanic classes as recommended.
Technical: Understand and perform basic service on the bike, suspension, and componentry. Proper use of tools, knowledge of bike-specific tools.
Physical Capabilities: Ability to push, pick up, and drag 50 lbs. Ability to ride on beginner and intermediate mountain trails effectively for extended periods. Give basic bike riding instructions to guests as needed.
Additional: Must have experience with or functional knowledge of the following equipment: Bike tools, lubes, chemicals, bike stand, bike storage rack, air compressor, air tools. Maintain a well-organized, safe, and clean environment.
Education/Related Experience
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
Minimum Experience: 1 season in a tuning/repair bike shop or equivalent experience.
