Drive a garbage or roll-off truck and ensure route completion in a timely and safe manner.
Description
General Accountabilities
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from route helper and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
- Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes. Finding job sites and communicating with on-site personnel.
- Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for services and collect payment for services when required.
- Operate equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers. This includes on-board computing equipment.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs.
- Check conditions of bed after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
- Read work orders or route sheets to determine assignment details.
- Check all work related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate--both electronic and paper entry are sometimes necessary.
- Read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes.
- Load and unload trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
- Communicate with dispatch personnel to coordinate additional assignments or route changes.
- Driving trucks with 10-speed or automatic transmission, air-brakes, and top heavy loads.

Job Qualifications
- Experience: At least 3 years' experience as truck driver.
- License: Valid Commercial Drivers' License required.
- Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) shows no major infractions.

Physical Demands
- Drivers enter and exit the truck many times throughout the day. They also may be required to assist route helpers in loading, unloading, securing loads, and moving bins.

Salary: $17.00 - $18.50 per hour
