Job Description

The Lead Toplander is responsible for such varied tasks as ringing signal bells for the operation of shaft conveyances, moving materials in and out of the shaft, organizing materials in the yard and ensuring shaft collar operations are conducted safely.

Responsibilities

1.    Operating shaft doors, conveyor belts or chutes that control the flow of material at the collar location and dump
2.    Sling gear baskets and other various equipment
3.    Prepare steel set and service pipes.
4.    Inspect and organize rigging equipment.
5.    Handle explosives.
6.    Maintain slings and lifting attachments.
7.    Maintain supply storage such as explosives, drill bits, fire extinguishers and batteries.
8.    Operate surface equipment i.e. forklift, loader and tugger.
9.    If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles.  Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
10.    Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
11.    Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
12.    Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures. 
13.    Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information. 
14.    Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
15.    Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations. 
16.    Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Qualifications

Education: 
High School, GED, and/or higher education.
 

Work Experience:
Minimum 3 years in similar role
 

Knowledge Required: 
1.    Ability to multitask and work effectively.
2.    Ability to safely use and handle a variety of tools, equipment, and materials. 
3.    Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
4.    Ability to work as part of a project planning team.
5.    Previous quality experience is required.
6.    Must be able to demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials.
7.    Knowledge of the mining industry underground environment 
8.    Knowledge of applicable mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining
9.    Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
10.    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
11.    High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy
