About the Department
Technician will request and prepare specimens and operate automated analyzer or perform manual tests in accordance with detailed instructions for the purpose of detecting drug levels (if any) of clients referred to this office.
Position Duties
(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
- Prepare specimens and operate automated analyzer or perform manual tests.
- Tests will be conducted in accordance with precise instructions in order to protect the reliability of the testing process for the purpose of discovering any possible drug levels of participants referred to this office.
- Preparing the specimens will include supervising, when requested, all collection of samples provided.
- Maintain an inventory of consumables and reagents needed to carry out routine testing.
- Employee will be responsible for training any technicians which may be employed in the future.
- Ensure that tests are reported to the requesting parties. Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent with a desire to further his/her education.
- Ability to orally communicate effectively to clients and employees.
- Ability to follow verbal and written directives.
- Ability and initiative to coordinate and complete tasks.
- Skill to accomplish above outlined tasks in accordance with established guidelines.

Physical Requirements
- Work requires frequent physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight (15-49 pounds).
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- The person in this position frequently communicates in person and on the telephone.
- The person in this position must be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Certifications or Licenses Required
- Must have no prior history of drug/alcohol abuse or addiction, or conviction of any crime of moral turpitude as defined by Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission.
- Must have a valid Alabama Drivers License and a good driving record.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Applicant must pass pre-employment drug test.
Work Schedule
- 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Varies)
- 25-29 hours a week
