The Office of Research Services (ORS) supports the research mission of the University of Victoria, to benefit society through the advancement and application of knowledge, creative and artistic expression, and the creation of research inspired learning environment. ORS provides services to faculty in support of their research, including providing information about research opportunities, support for developing research proposals and setting up projects, including account set-up and the required regulatory approvals.
Based in the Faculties of Fine Arts and Humanities at the University of Victoria, the Research, Creative Activity, and Scholarship Coordinator (RCASC) will have an integral role in providing infrastructure for research, creative and scholarly activities within the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Fine Arts, specifically for grant development and facilitation for faculty members.
Reporting to the Associate Dean Creative Activity, Research and Administration of the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Associate Dean Research of the Faculty of Humanities, and the Associate Director Research Grants at the Office of Research Services, this position will serve as the pre-award grants administrator and will provide expertise in the preparation of grant proposals submitted by faculty members through the Faculties of Fine Arts and Humanities, to all intra- and extramural funding sources. The Coordinator will also assist with the preparation of nominations for Awards and Recognitions supported by the Deans and Associate Deans of the two Faculties. The RCASC will liaise with the respective Communications Officers to support the celebration and communication of research and creative activity in the Faculties.
The RCASC will provide support to the Associate Director Research Grants, through timely and thorough reviews of the research proposals to be submitted to the ORS. The RCASC will help to ensure that the proposals comply with the granting agencies’ and the university’s policies, regulations, and requirements before submission. The RCASC will provide guidance on the regulations, funding agency requirements, and budget development as well as conducting technical and budget reviews of funding applications to provide feedback to researchers. This process involves the interpretation of complex guidelines and regulations specific to each funding agency. The RCASC must be able to communicate specialized information clearly to researchers (including artists, writers, and musicians) and resolve issues arising effectively
This position requires a graduate degree in a field within the humanities or fine arts with a minimum of two years’ experience working in an administration environment, research administration preferred, or equivalent professional experience in an appropriate discipline desirable. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience must include research and creative activity, grant writing, data collection and analysis. Work experience in a post-secondary institution, foundation or granting agency setting is preferred. Reading knowledge of French and the ability to facilitate grant applications in French is strongly preferred.
Knowledge requirements include:

- Proficiency with information/communication technologies (web-searches/email/word processing/spreadsheets/database skills).
Required Competencies:
The ability to develop efficient and effective strategies to problem solve, prioritize, and manage the administrative process of an increasing workload effectively.
A thorough understanding of the pre-award process to be able to clarify and focus what the current, pertinent issues are, and the ability to solve problems once the issue has been identified.
The ability to coordinate projects, multitask, and manage sensitive timelines for the accomplishment of objectives that have significant financial impact.
The ability to process and interpret written policy and guidelines to ensure compliance and adherence to UVic and agency requirements.
Superior writing and editing skills and a high degree of computer expertise to function effectively using the campus and Faculty centralized systems.
A thorough understanding of institutional policies, procedures, rules, and practices in order to assure the timely and accurate flow of proposals through the UVic system. This includes keeping abreast of the current rules and regulations at UVic pertaining to the grants process.

Salary posted will be pro-rated based on FTE and achieved as per the collective agreement, if applicable.
