K-12 Art Engagement & Asynchronous Learning Instructor
The K–12 Art Engagement & Asynchronous Learning Instructor is a strategic instructional role
designed to expand student access, increase enrollment in live arts programming, and elevate the
quality and consistency of asynchronous art instruction across the school.
This instructor serves as the front-facing ambassador of the art program, leading all K–12 art
clubs as high-engagement, entry-point experiences while also owning the design, delivery, and
continuous improvement of asynchronous art courses. The role is both instructional and
programmatic, directly contributing to recruitment, retention, and student identity development in the
arts.
This position allows current instructors to deepen excellence in synchronous live instruction while
ensuring that clubs and asynchronous offerings become intentional pipelines into high-functioning
live arts classes.
POSITION START DATE: July 1, 2026
Core Responsibilities
1. K–12 Art Clubs (Program Growth & Student Recruitment Engine)
• Design and lead highly engaging, skill-accessible art club experiences for elementary, middle,
and high school students
• Create club structures that balance fun, belonging, and artistic rigor
• Intentionally use clubs as on-ramps to live instruction (clear next steps, invitations,
showcases)
• Build student community and artistic identity through consistent routines, celebrations, and
exhibitions
• Collaborate with marketing/enrollment efforts to highlight student work and program impact
2. Asynchronous Art Program Leadership
• Take ownership of most asynchronous art courses (K–12)
• Monitor student progress and engagement; intervene to support completion and quality
• Continuously refine courses based on data and student work
3. Program Coherence & Alignment
• Align club experiences and async courses with live instruction pathways
• Ensure vertical alignment of skills and artistic habits across K–12
• Collaborate with K–5 and 6–12 instructors to:
◦ Identify readiness indicators for live classes
◦ Share student data and artistic growth insights
◦ Maintain consistency in expectations and instructional language
Strategic Rationale for Adding This Position
1. Protect and Elevate Core Instruction
MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL PREP
NEW ART POSITION SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
-- 1 of 3 --
Currently, instructors are split across live teaching, clubs, and async responsibilities, which dilutes
instructional focus.
This new role:
• Frees current teachers to specialize in high-impact synchronous instruction
• Improves instructional quality and consistency across all modalities
2. Turn Clubs into a True Enrollment Pipeline
Art clubs are currently under-leveraged. With intentional design, they can:
• Serve as low-risk entry points for new students
• Build confidence and identity in the arts
• Increase transition rates into live, high-functioning classes
This role transforms clubs from “extra programming” into a strategic growth lever.
3. Improve Quality and Completion of Async Courses
We are finding that our current Asynchronous learning often suffers from:
• Low engagement
• Weak feedback loops
A dedicated specialist ensures:
• Courses will have increased engagement, not just access
• Students receive faster and more meaningful feedback
• Completion rates and quality of work should improve
4. Expand Program Reach Without Overloading Staff
This role allows the program to:
• Scale offerings (especially async and clubs)
• Serve more students
• Maintain quality without burnout
5. Strengthen Student Identity and Belonging in the Arts
Clubs + async experiences become:
• Spaces where students discover their artistic voice
• Bridges into deeper, more rigorous artistic study
Recommended Qualifications
Instructional Expertise
• Strong background in visual arts education (K–12 preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to teach across a wide range of skill levels
• Understanding of scaffolded skill progression and creative development
• Experience designing engaging blended learning environments
Student Engagement & Culture Building
• Exceptional ability to build relationships quickly in virtual environments
-- 2 of 3 --
• Skilled in creating high-energy, inclusive, and motivating experiences
• Experience leading clubs, workshops, or informal learning environments
• Ability to cultivate student voice, choice, and ownership
Program Design & Systems Thinking
• Ability to think beyond individual classes and design coherent program pathways
• Experience aligning instruction to outcomes, assessments, and progression
• Data-informed mindset (engagement, completion, recruitment metrics)
Creative & Entrepreneurial Mindset
• Sees clubs as experiences to design, brand, and grow, not just supervise
• Willingness to experiment and innovate
• Strong initiative and ownership over program success
Technical & Organizational Skills
• Experience with LMS platforms and digital content creation
• Ability to organize and manage multiple course streams simultaneously
• Strong communication skills (students, families, staff)
Key Attributes to Prioritize in Hiring
When evaluating candidates, we will prioritize those who demonstrate:
• Magnetism with students – students want to come back, participate, and share
• Design thinking – ability to build experiences, not just lessons
• Strong personal work ethic – ability to responsibly handle a flexible schedule
• Commitment to artistic identity development, not just technical skill
• Michigan K-12 Art Certification - LX or LQ
• Michigan Residency Preferred - we prefer a candidate who resides in Michigan
Success Indicators for the Role
Within the first year, we should expect to see:
• Increased art club participation and retention
• Measurable conversion from clubs → live classes
• Improved async course completion rates and student work quality
• Stronger student sense of belonging and artistic identity
• More focused, higher-quality live instruction from existing staff
