Animal Emergency Center of Sandy Springs is seeking a highly skilled Part-Time Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care (ER/ICU) team. As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in delivering life-saving care, supporting DVMs, and managing complex cases from triage through recovery. Candidates must be confident working independently, prioritizing critical patients, and executing advanced technical skills with precision.
🩺 What You’ll Do
Emergency & Critical Care
- Perform ER triage, rapid patient assessment, and case prioritization
- Provide ICU-level nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients
- Assist with emergency stabilization and life-saving interventions
Advanced Technical Skills
- Place IV catheters (including difficult placements), collect blood samples, and administer fluids
- Calculate and manage fluid therapy, CRIs, and medication dosing
- Administer medications safely and accurately
Anesthesia & Procedures
- Monitor anesthesia for routine and high-risk patients (including emergency surgeries)
- Oversee anesthetic recovery and post-operative care
- Assist in emergency and soft tissue surgical procedures
Diagnostics & Monitoring
- Perform radiographs, in-house laboratory testing, and basic cytology
- Monitor patients using ECG, SpO₂, blood pressure, and ETCO₂
Client Communication & Documentation
- Maintain accurate, detailed medical records
- Communicate effectively with DVMs and team members to ensure continuity of care
- Provide compassionate, professional support to clients during emergency situations
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred (or eligible)
- VTNE completed and graduate of an AVMA-accredited program strongly preferred
- 2+ years of ER, ICU, surgery, or specialty veterinary experience required
- Strong proficiency in:
- Emergency triage and case management
- Advanced IV catheter placement
- Anesthesia monitoring and recovery (including high-risk cases)
- Fluid therapy and CRI calculations
- Critical patient monitoring and nursing care
- Highly skilled non-credentialed technicians with strong ER experience may be considered
Schedule & Availability
- Part-time schedule (evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday availability required)
- Flexibility to support high-volume and critical caseloads
