Job Description

Adult Program Director – CU Special Recreation

Champaign Park District – Part-Time 1, Non-Exempt (hours not to exceed 29 hours per week on average)


About the Job:

Make a meaningful impact by leading engaging and inclusive programs for adults with disabilities. As the Adult Program Director, you’ll plan and facilitate a variety of recreational activities—from sports and fitness to arts and community outings—while creating a safe, supportive, and fun environment where participants can thrive. This role is perfect for someone who is compassionate, organized, and motivated to lead both participants and staff.


Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead inclusive recreational programs, including sports, arts, social events, and community outings
  • Supervise and support participants with varying abilities, ensuring safety and engagement
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to support staff and volunteers
  • Develop weekly lesson plans and prepare program materials and spaces
  • Communicate effectively with participants, families, and program staff regarding progress and needs
  • Implement behavior management strategies and follow all risk management procedures
  • Assist with personal care, mobility support, and daily living needs as required
  • Coordinate logistics for programs, including supplies, transportation, and field trips (including overnight trips)
  • Maintain accurate documentation and program records
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, training requirements, and Park District procedures
