Summary/Objective

The Outreach Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples using venipuncture or capillary techniques, registration of patients, insurance verification, order of tests and specimen/supply transportation to and from designated location. The Outreach Phlebotomist must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

Essential Job Duties

  1. Maintains a high degree of competency in the performance and supervision of all phlebotomy processes, to include the performance of ACTs.  Performance of CLIA Waived testing as determined by Laboratory Management.
  2. Verifies insurance benefits assigned to the Hospital to determine if insurance coverage meets the standards of admission as stated in Hospital policy and completes accurately all required health information and Medicare questionnaire questions prior to collection of patient specimen.
  3. Registers, places orders, compiles and distributes information regarding patients' personal, insurance, and financial status. Provides appropriate forms to billing and other departments.
  4. Utilizes standard precautions to minimize the potential for exposure. Utilizes appropriate safety precautions in all procedures to promote patient comfort.
  5. Maintains awareness of current Hospital and Departmental operational policies and procedures which impact on position responsibilities.
  6. Reports to work in a timely manner. Has had minimal unscheduled absences. Completes assigned work shift as scheduled.

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent 

1 – 3 years of related experience.
